We are always here to assist our families in any way we can. We have also found some other great resources that may be of assistance. If you know of any other websites or resources that may be beneficial to our families, please visit our contact page and let us know so we can add them to this page.
Childhood Cancer Guide: American Childhood Cancer Organization is proud to offer quality materials for children and families who are dealing with childhood cancer.
A non-profit counseling organization dedicated to meeting the needs of our community through assessment and psychotherapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families.
Transformation Functional Fitness: Our mission is to educate and empower you to be proactive and not reactive with your health through healthy eating and functional exercise for everyday life. Do you want to look, feel, and function at your best each and every day? We'd love to help you on your quest for extraordinary fitness and health.
Joseph Rafferty Photography: Joseph Rafferty Photography specializes in photographing children and their families for seasonal portraits, family excursions, outings, birthdays, and vacations. Joseph Rafferty has volunteered his services to photograph families supported by Fight Like PAXTON and has volunteered his time and talent to photograph events for FLP on several occasions (Car Show, Presents for Paxton delivery at UNC Children's Hospital, etc...).
Camps for Kids with Cancer: Time spent at camp is a wonderful experience for cancer kids and their siblings too. How wonderful for them to leave all those hospital visits behind and be outdoors doing fun things with other kids who understand. It gives them chances to both have fun and to open up and say what they really feel about being diagnosed with cancer. Many organizations have established cancer kid camps. These camps have the staff and facilities to deal with the children's special needs and many times the counselors are cancer survivors.
Financial Help and Insurance Issues: Many families of children with cancer experience financial difficulties. Even if the family has full medical insurance coverage, they can spend a large portion of their income on co-payments, travel, motels, meals, and other uncovered items. Families dependent on two incomes or single parent families are likely to experience financial difficulties if a parent must quit their job to care for the child.
Make a Wish and other Wish Organizations: One wonderful experience, which most cancer children and families have, is a "Wish" granted by a wish-granting organization. The wish is just about anything the child desires: a trip for the family to Disney World, a trip to Hawaii, meeting their favorite celebrity, a new computer system, a re-do of their bedroom - all of these are only examples of granted wishes. The granting of the wish gives the child and the family a well-needed break from all that they are going through.
College Scholarships: Scholarship for survivors of childhood cancer and siblings of children with cancer.
Super Cooper’s Little Red Wagon Foundation: Cancer that strikes a child does not affect just one person; it afflicts an entire family. The mission of Super Cooper’s Little Red Wagon Foundation is to lift these families up and to strengthen them in their battle against this non-discriminating disease. It is our belief that by empowering these families with choices, hope, and opportunities, we can strengthen their fight against cancer.
Ronald McDonald House-Chapel Hill: The Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill is a beacon of hope for more than 1,800 families who stay here each year while their children undergo treatment at area hospitals. The House provides a setting for family and community to flourish, and offers caring and support to families struggling with a child's illness.
Camp Carefree: Since 1986, Camp Carefree has provided a FREE, one week camping experience for kids with chronic illnesses. Our program also includes camps for well siblings of ill children, and a week for children with a sick parent.
The Mesothelioma Group: This great organization is dedicated to cancer research and awareness and recently published a very informative guide to understanding cancer.
